[ad_pod ]Chris Sutton followed Celtic’s Deadline Day drama to the last minute as the Hoops finally signed a right-back with Jeremy Toljan agreeing a deal. There was less than 90 minutes left in the window when word finally came through that the Borussia Dortmund right-back had signed up until the end of the season.
Most Celtic fans had been hoping for a permanent signing to put a brick in place for July’s European qualifying ties but as the transfer window reached the final day the priority shifted to simply getting a deal over the line.
Ironically Mikael Lustig has been one of Celtic’s top performers in their last two matches, but Celtic need an alternative to the 32-year-old full-back if they’re to steer past Valencia in Europe.
Toljan will meet up with his new team-mates as Celtic assess his fitness but a debut at St Johnstone on Sunday would seem unlikely due to his lack of match sharpness – he has only featured in the Regionalliga West for Dortmund this season.

On Wednesday Celtic have a closed doors friendly arranged with Sunderland, where Toljan can get a run out as Brendan Rodgers assesses whether his new signing is ready to go into the side to face Valencia on February 14th.
